#STAYATHOME: How Books can help you?Elisabete Teixeira
My first word: Welcome!
They say books transport us to different worlds and this sentence is totally true.
In the most difficult moments of the Humanity, writers have not stopped writing, and people have not stopped reading. This is an inescapable truth and shows how the power of the word can indeed change the world or help us survive the worst moments.
We are experiencing a very particular and complicated moment in our History, bearing in mind that many of us have never known, and felt, the real human and economic catastrophe caused by the two World Wars. We must be prepared, to survive above all, but also to keep the spirit alert and lucid, because living is our great purpose.
In this way, I believe that books can bring great comfort to the human soul, because they provide us with a different view of the world, without leaving home. And deep down, that’s what happens today with millions of people: trapped at home, we need to keep dreaming.
You can read this newsabout how in the UK, for example, independent bookstores are trying to bring books to their readers: www.penguin.co.uk/articles/2020/mar/how-bookshops-across-britain-are-rallying-to-help-self-isolating
You can then use this tool, which is a directory of booksellers belonging to the Booksellers Association in the UK & Ireland: www.booksellers.org.uk/bookshopsearch
They are just examples of how to help readers access their favourite books in an easy and secure way.
It is certainly very important at this stage to keep your head busy. So, my best advice is really, read a book and be taken to another world, with one certainty: in that world, there is no Covid-19, I can assure you.
