Maria Inês Rebelo
Author of the book Hypnosis, A Return to the Past and The Light of Marva, the Story before Jasmine.
It’s hard for me to start a biography without first mentioning where my existence began: I was born in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1985.
Daughter of history teachers, since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the history of the Cosmos and our Universe. But it was not astronomy studies that I ended up following, years later. I graduated in Law and it was during this period that I learned that Moral has nothing to do with the Law. At least, that’s what I was taught. Life has given me lessons, a little different.
In 2012, I completed my Master’s degree, but I was still not convinced that I would make a good lawyer. Even so, it was at this time that I published the book “Voluntary Work: a legal and social reflection”.
Since we do not live from volunteer work, I started working on projects related to the German market. I read a lot, at a certain stage of my life, between the ages of 12 and 20. They say that for a reader, there’s always a stop phase. We take the opportunity to grow, evolve, travel, and meet people outside the books. That’s what happened to me.
I still read a lot, but today I am extremely focused on understanding certain phases of human history. I like to read books that give us a lesson for the future, with an eye on the past. Favorite authors? I like Isabel Allende, John Steinbeck, Richard Zimler, among other Portuguese authors such as João de Melo and Mário Ventura.
I support causes like Autism and Endometriosis. I love to travel around Portugal and take pictures of this wonderful country we have.
“Hypnosis, A Return to the Past” is my first book of fiction. With the help of Leila and Ali Dewji, the heads of I AM Self-Publishing, I published two versions of my first fiction book, one is available on Kindle and the other is a paperback version: Hypnosis, A Return to the Past. Rachel Lawston is the book cover designer.
The book tells the story of a famous hypnotist called Marcus Belling who is faced with a new approach to hypnosis when he meets a new patient, Anne Pauline Roux.
The story is a mixture of spiritualism and esotericism because I still simply believe in the secrets of the Cosmos.
When you buy the book, you will get a free short story to be read alongside it: The Light of Marva, the Story before Jasmine. Marva is not a completely fictitious place. The real-life inspiration for Marva was Marvão, a historic village in Portugal, located at an altitude of 900 meters. You can see photos of the beautiful village on this Website, in the Gallery. To learn more about The Light of Marva, go to my Landing Page.
I would also like to announce that, very soon, the book will be published in Portuguese through Gato Bravo Publisher. Their wonderful books can be seen here: https://www.editoragatobravo.pt/
The Grato Bravo (in fact, all writers have a bit of that wildcat spirit) is an independent publishing house, which produces books in print and digital mode. They have offices in Portugal and in Brasil.

WHERE DO I FIND INSPIRATION?
I found it important to dedicate a few words to Inspiration.
As we all know, inspiration plays a key role in a writer’s life, although discipline and work ability are key. But where am I going to get inspiration?
Every place I have visited in recent years has served as an inspiration to me, and to what I write. This book and the story “The Light of Marva” were written based on a Portuguese village called Marvão. Its charm and magic have inspired me in various parts of my stories. Because of this, you can find in the Gallery of this site, a set of photographs about Marvão (which in my fiction is called Marva).
I also invite all readers to check out my Gallery and to appreciate the moments that have inspired me.
Good inspiration to all!
