Volunteer Work

I’ve always been interested in social issues, even when I was studying law. That’s why I decided to thoroughly investigate the subject of voluntary work in Portugal, with all its legal and social implications. After completing my Master’s degree, I decided to gather and publish all the information I had on how volunteering was legislated and practiced in Portugal, in various sectors of activity.

I discovered that voluntary work was widespread in areas as diverse as heritage, social action, leisure organizations and many others. What’s more, its regulation was based on a law that was no longer adapted to the social situation. I have always been an advocate of adapting the law to society, to its vicissitudes, properties and characteristics, and not the other way around;

This is how my first (technical) book was born: “Voluntary Work, a legal and social reflection”, which gave me the important lesson of how a book should be structured, organized and revised. Although it deals with specific legal and social issues, I sense that in the future, questions of voluntary work will become increasingly pressing.
